In this presentation, I review the importance of preventing infection in a vulnerable patient population (renal dialysis) The importance of key bacterial pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus is explained and what measures can be undertaken to reduce blood stream infections from this organism. Access related infections are reviewed.

The measures needed to prevent peritoneal dialysis associated peritonitis are discussed and to complete the presentation, key viruses, including Covid-19 and BBV are considered.
