IPC Training Days

NHSE IPC Education Framework level: This course aligns to Foundation and Enhanced levels

The IPC Training Days programme provides education for trainees and other healthcare professionals working in the field of medical microbiology, medical virology and infectious diseases, and other areas of infection control.

The refreshed programme covers high-quality core content that is aligned and relevant to the JRCPTB and RCPath curricula and meets current educational needs of trainees and a wider community of multi-disciplinary professionals working in the field of IPC.

Programme

The rolling programme comprises a series of nine, independent one-day training sessions, which take place online four times per year, in February, July, September and November.

Registration

The revised IPC Training Days programme sees the implementation of a new registration fee structure, that includes the introduction of small charge of £25 per event for HIS Trainee and Associate Trainee members, following a phased approach, which comes into full effect in 2025.

HIS Trainee and Associate Trainee members can still book onto the next two sessions, which take place on 11 September and 8 November, free of charge by registering before 10 September 2024.

Frequently asked questions

Why have charges been introduced for Trainee and Associate Trainee members?

HIS (like many other not-for-profit membership organisations) is facing challenging economic conditions and experiencing significant changes to our established revenue streams. Amendments to the events funding model are required to ensure the financial sustainability of HIS’s events programme and to ensure we can continue to deliver high quality education and other services to our members and the wider community of healthcare professionals.

Will the course content change?

The revised and refreshed programme of IPC Training Days will cover high-quality core content aligned and relevant to the JRCPTB and RCPath curricula. The course will meet current educational needs of trainees and multi-disciplinary professionals working in the field of IPC.

Will the training days still be delivered online?

The IPC Training Days will continue to be delivered fully online, via Zoom.

I’ve attended several Trainee Days and am working towards obtaining the Foundation Certificate in IPC. Will the sessions I’ve attended previously still count towards this award?

The completion of both free-to-attend ‘Trainee Education Days’ and revised programme of ‘HIS IPC Training Days’ will all count towards you achieving the Foundation Certificate in IPC.

When will the charges for Trainee and Associate Trainee members be introduced?

The charges are being introduced in a phased approach that come into full effect in 2025. HIS Trainee and Associate Trainee members can register for the upcoming IPC Training Days taking place in September and November free of charge, if registering before 10 September 2024. For registrations after this date, a charge of £25 for HIS Trainee members and Associate Trainee members will apply.

What payment options are there?

Payments must be made by credit/debit card or Paypal, when registering online. HIS does not currently offer an invoicing option for IPC Training Days, but you can access a copy of your receipt by logging in to your HIS web portal www.his.org.uk/account/login to support claims for reimbursement from your employer or place of study.

Can I book for multiple sessions?

What happens if I register but can no longer attend?

If you cannot join the live session, you will be able to access a recording shortly after the course has been delivered. If you would prefer to cancel your place, you can request this in writing by sending an email to admin@his.org.uk up to 14 days prior to the event and the registration fee will be refunded in full. Refunds will not be provided for cancellations less than 14 days prior to the event or for delegates who do not join on the day.
