Dr Stephen Clark

Dr Stephen Clark is a Senior Scientist at the UKHSA Meningococcal Reference Unit (MRU) in Manchester. The MRU provides meningococcal detection and characterisation services for invasive meningococcal disease cases in England and Wales. Stephen’s role involves overseeing meningococcal typing from clinical specimens, which is important for national meningococcal surveillance and often provides crucial microbiological information in outbreak scenarios. He is also involved in a range of research activities within the unit including the ‘Be on the Team’ national meningococcal carriage study and the BloTIMA project to validate the use of dried blood and CSF spots for diagnosis of meningococcal disease.
