Hilary Humphreys is Professor of Clinical Microbiology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Consultant Microbiologist in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. He has a long-standing interest in the epidemiology and prevention of healthcare-associated infections, including those relating to neurosurgery and critical care. He has had led working parties that developed clinical guidelines in the UK and Ireland. He is currently Honorary Treasurer of the European Study Group on Nosocomial Infections, and he is the current President of the Healthcare Infection Society.
