Anne Pullyblank

Anne has been a Consultant Colorectal surgeon at North Bristol NHS (NBT) Trust since 2003 and Clinical Director for Surgery 2010 -2015. Anne was Clinical Director of the Patient Safety Collaborative at the West of England Academic Health Science Network (WEAHSN) from 2015 to 2018 and Medical Director until 2022. She has led many patient safety projects but has a specific interest in surgical site infection. She has been a collaborator on the Bluebelle Research studies, and led the WEAHSN PreciSSIon collaborative which halved surgical site infection after elective colorectal cancer surgery in 7 hospitals across the region. She was shortlisted for a HSJ award in 2015 for work on surgical site infection at NBT and won a HSJ national patient safety award and BMJ award in 2021 for the PreciSSIon collaborative. She is currently working on a regional project to reduce SSI after Caesarean birth and further work at NBT on SSI after urology and vascular surgery. She now works for NHS England as regional lead for general surgery
