The Higher Awards Committee of the Healthcare Infection Society (HIS) announced Professor Elaine Cloutman-Green as a recipient of the HIS Early Career Award 2023 in recognition of her outstanding innovative contributions to the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections as an early career clinician.
Dr Manjula Meda, Chair of the HIS Higher Awards Committee, said:
“The HIS Higher Awards Committee were particularly impressed by Professor Cloutman-Green’s commitment to public engagement, education and training, and research in infection prevention control. It was specified that this was a very impressive application from one of the first healthcare scientists to become an infection control doctor at a major NHS Trust.”
Professor Cloutman-Green is a Consultant Clinical Scientist (Infection Control Doctor), Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control and Joint Trust Lead Healthcare Scientist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. She is also an Honorary Professor for the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at University College London.
On winning the award, Professor Cloutman-Green said:
“I am incredibly fortunate to receive this award and count myself so lucky to have been surrounded by inspiring IPC leaders who have encouraged me not only to break new ground as a Healthcare Scientist working as an Infection Control Doctor, but also given me the confidence to aspire to be a senior leader who now gets to support others, who are the future generations within IPC. I could not be happier or more grateful.”
